Elective Track

Time, Class Titles, Descriptions, and Instructors (subject to change)

Monday, November 8

8-9:45AM/Organizing Files & Layers, 'Work Smarter, Not Harder'/Larry Phipps -- This class will show students a system of basic organizational techniques that can be applied within your CAD files and system. These principles can be applied to any user of CAD files and any sort of business. Simple yet powerful techniques can make the difference between an efficient and productive business and a business that flounders under the weight of managing the information.

Carlson Fundamentals/TBD -- This session will cover AutoCAD/IntelliCAD Concept Review, File Management & Settings, Edit commands, View commands, Draw Functions, Inquiry and Settings routines, Point routines, Terrain Modeling - 3D Surfaces, and Annotation commands.

10:15AM-Noon/Carlson Data Depot/Ladd Nelson -- Learn how to setup and use Carlson Data Depot for document management. You can track data file changes over time and merge contributions from multiple users. Also, having a central project repository helps with data back-up and prevents data loss due to local drive failures.

1-2:45PM/IntelliCAD 7/Jennifer DiBona -- This class will cover many of the current differences (amd some similarities) between AutoCAD and IntelliCAD. Some areas we will explore are differences in customization, menus & toolbars and commands, options, & settings.

3:15-5PM/Draw to Standard/Cliff Petersohn -- This class compliments and extends the CAD Manager elective class to detail how Carlson Software can help organizations define, use, and promulgate CAD standards to easily generate drawings conformant to published (such as the United States National CAD Standard®) or client and site specific CAD standards. In addition it will complement and extend the Introducing Carlson's New GIS Interoperability with ESRI elective class to show how Carlson has enhanced its CAD standards capabilities to provide seamless drawing based interoperability with ESRI ArcGIS.

Tuesday, November 9

8-9:45AM/Introducing Carlson's New GIS Interoperability with ESRI/Gary Rosen -- Carlson has forged a close working relationship with ESRI, a recognized global leader in enterprise GIS technology in response to increasing customer and market demand to easily access, edit, and deliver compatible high precision engineering quality spatial data natively within its products. This session will introduce customers to newly available interoperability features in both mobile field and office environments which allow customers to exchange data directly with highly structured ESRI geodatabases without having to employ intermediate formats such as shape files.

10:15AM-Noon/Point Cloud Mesh, Sections & Profiles/Scott Griffin -- The class will cover how to make a MESH in Point Cloud and Extract Contours, Sections and Profiles back into CAD.

1-2:45PM/Tips & Tricks for Surveying GIS Data/Felicia Provencal -- As GIS databases become more prevalent, both in the private sector as well as the public sector, surveyors are being asked to provide accurate information for these databases more often.  This class will show you various features of Carlson SurvCE and Carlson Survey that can be used in the field and office when collecting, processing, and analyzing GIS data.  In addition, we will cover some of the “best practices” that can be implemented by your field crew to improve the speed and accuracy of your data collection.

3:15-5PM/Point Cloud Feature Extraction & Field-to-Finish/Scott Griffin -- The class will cover how Field to Finish in Point Cloud is drawn back into CAD. We will also show how 3D linework is drawn and Feature Extractions for Trees, Poles and Fire Hydrant back into CAD.

A grid with the complete class schedule is now available. If you have a specific request for a class subject, please email conference@carlsonsw.com and your request will be considered.
