Go GREEN, Save, and Get Greater Sustainability with Carlson Natural Regrade

MAYSVILLE, Ky. – Carlson Natural Regrade gives mining companies – actually, anyone faced with disturbed lands – an affordable and natural way to achieve sustainability when doing reclamation.

The software features the GeoFluv™ approach to stable landform design, using fluvial geomorphic principles – essentially designing the land to be as it would have naturally formed on that site over thousands of years. The U.S. Department of the Interior’s Office of Surface Mining, Reclamation and Enforcement (OSM), named Carlson Software’s Natural Regrade a “TIPS Core Software” for mine reclamation design and review use in 2007.

“You can do it right the first time with Natural Regrade,” says Nicholas Bugosh, developer of the software and Natural Regrade sales director for Carlson Software. “Those in the future will thank you when they see the natural beauty of the land returned and find increased wildlife and plant diversity.

“And,” he adds, “your mine manager will also thank you because Natural Regrade designs have saved up to 37 percent as compared to traditional methods, do not require maintenance, and promote successful bond release.”

Rather than fight the natural forces that shape the land, Natural Regrade with GeoFluv™ helps the user create a landscape that harmonizes with these forces.

“With the old way of land reclamation,” says Bugosh, “stability just cannot be achieved with uniform slopes, artificial water conveyances, and what turns out to be high-maintenance erosion control gimmicks. You do not see long constant gradient slopes or slope terraces in nature for a reason; they are not stable against erosional forces.”

Natural Regrade helps users to design an aesthetically pleasing, natural, and, most importantly, stable landform. Because stability against erosion is established, water quality in Natural Regrade reclaimed areas remains comparable or better than surrounding undisturbed lands.

“Using Natural Regrade provides true sustainability – land that thrives despite the strong and often uncontrollable forces of nature,” says Bugosh.

Since its release in 2005, Carlson Natural Regrade has spread across the U.S. It is now also gaining popularity around the globe, with users in Canada, Australia, and Romania.
